20th Foundation Day Celebration

20TH FOUNDATION DAY OF UNITED COMMITTEE MANIPUR (UCM) CELEBRATED SYMBOLICALLY DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC

20th Foundation Day Celebration was held at the Head Office of UCM at Lamphel on 3rd July 2020 following the lock down rules with a symbolic function and limited guests and invitees.

President of UCM, Sunil Karam on Friday expressed that an outsider cannot bring solutions to the internal issues of Manipur while stressing that the government should give priority on removing the sufferings of the people amid Covid-19 pandemic. He said the internal issues of the state could only be solved by cooperation and removing the communication gap among one another.

Secretary General of the UCM, Khuraijam Athouba in his keynote address appeal that, let us stop making outsiders get involved while attempting to solve internal issues of the state as it will not bring good outcomes in future. He said, the ongoing Peace Talks with NSCN (IM) and the central government has already completed 22 years and is continuing. Interlocutor RN Ravi cannot bring solutions to the peace talk without consulting various stakeholders of each community of Manipur and other neighboring states.

As part of the program, the flag of UCM was hoisted in the campus of its head office. It was followed by a one-minute silence in commemoration of the departed souls who became martyred during the famous “The Great June Uprising, 18 June 2001”.

President Sunil Karam also launched an official website of UCM https://unitedcommitteemanipur.com at the program. The website is designed, developed and maintained by Mitrang Technologies (https://mitrang.com)

The consultative committee members of the UCM Yumnamcha Dilipkumar and L Jadumani also took part at the celebration as dais members.

The United Committee Manipur (UCM) was established on 3rd of July 2001. It is the outcome of the unprecedented ceasefire agreement declaration between the proscribed NSCN (IM) and Government of India. After the fateful incident of the Great June Uprising on 18 June 2001 where 18 innocent lives were lost during the protest against the extension of the cease fire inside the territory of Manipur, various Civil Society Organizations (CSO) of the state joined hands to form an apex umbrella organization to defend the territorial integrity of Manipur.
